Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be currently licensed in Utah as an EMD, EMR, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic for at least 2 years.
  • Have at least 1 year of experience working in the medical field as a licensed provider.

Required Documentation

Submit signed verification documents on official agency/department letterhead:

  1. Letter of Recommendation
    • Highlighting EMS skills and teaching abilities.
  2. Instructional Experience
    • Verification of 15 hours of instructional experience within the last 12 months.
  3. Patient Contacts
    • Verification of 25 patient contacts within the past year through a licensed agency or healthcare facility.

Note: A single comprehensive letter covering all three areas is acceptable if it is detailed, signed, and on official letterhead.


How to Apply

To enroll, complete these steps:

  1. Visit emslicense.utah.gov.
  2. Select “Education,” enter the course number, and register.
  3. Start the EMS Instructor application process.
  4. Submit required documents and pay the $150 endorsement fee.

Important: Registration and attendance do not guarantee endorsement. You must meet all requirements and pass the course.


Course Requirements

To successfully complete the course and receive endorsement, you must:

  1. Reflective Essay Assignment
    • Write a 500-700 word essay on leadership, moral courage, resilience, and responsibility in EMS.
    • Grading criteria:
      • Depth of analysis, application, and relevance to EMS education.
      • Organization and clarity.
      • Minimum score: 70%.
  2. In-Class Skills Demonstration
    • Present a 3–5 minute medical skill demonstration.
    • Grading criteria:
      • Communication and use of appropriate terminology.
      • Audience engagement and use of visual aids.
      • Leadership and confidence in teaching.
      • Professionalism during the presentation.
  3. Attendance and Participation
    • Attendance is mandatory. Missing more than 30 minutes will result in removal from the course.

Technology Requirements (Webinars)

Participants must have a device with video and audio capabilities for online presentations.
